4.6.98 Determination I go skating
sometimes with this guy named Ben. Ben isn't that good, but he's only
been skating for a few months, but he loves it. Every day I go out I see
him, ollieing off a curb, trying to land kickflips, and just having fun.
I do kind of feel sorry for him, though, because he gets made fun of by
everyone else just because he isn't good. He pushes it aside, and keeps
skating. That was a few weeks ago. Just last Saturday, I skated with him
again. He was trying to ollie down this little four set of four steps.
I know it was the first time he had tried it, and he had been there for
quite some time. I talked to him for some time, then went off and skated
around back. There I met up with some of my other friends. We skated in
a vacant parking lot out back for an hour or two, then we went back out
front. Ben was still out front, sitting on his board. One guy yelled,
"Ollie the steps, fag." Ben set his board down, approached the
steps, and landed them perfectly. His dedication had payed off. I think
this is the heart and soul of skateboarding, pushing yourself to new levels
every time you go out. If we were all this dedicated, I think we would
be a little better as a people. |
